The need in a nutshell

Merja teaching English

Breaking news: You can help us make the Tahan school financially sustainable in 2020 by donating second hand computers and/or donating to clear current debt. Read about it in the this post.

Desperately needy communities in North West Myanmar require their children to be educated to enable them to support their families. Having suffered under a cruel regime in Myanmar, many in large measure due to their faith, they have been victimised, and struggle to make ends meet.

Switched On has been funding the shortfall in a school established in 2017 in Tahan to teach core subjects including English, to help folks from diverse yet poor Burmese backgrounds to earn a better crust. It was started by a local church community, which we have worked with closely since 2009, out of compassion to offer affordable education. Run by qualified teachers it is already achieving above-average results in nationally recognised exams.
